Gary J. Boos,

an American senior transmission engineer, chess class A and Go player, and computer chess and Go programmer. He received a BSCE degree in 1966 and a MSCE degree in structural engineering in 1968 from the University of Minnesota [1].

Game Playing Programs

Along with James Mundstock, Gary Boos co-authored the chess programs Mr. Turk and Iron Fish. Mr. Turk did not use alpha-beta, but a search based on a Multipurpose, Theorem-Proving Heuristic Program as described by James R. Slagle and Philip Bursky in 1968 [2], and competed at ACM 1971 [3]. Iron Fish played the ACM 1975. Gary Boos’ Go-programm Teamgo paticipiated five times at North American Computer Go Championships [4] from 1995 to 1999.
