First GI Computer Chess Tournament

[ Dortmund Old Town Hall The First GI Computer Chess Tournament took place from October 17-20, 1975 in Dortmund Old Town Hall. It was the very first German computer chess tournament, and was hosted by Gesellschaft für Informatik (abbreviated as “GI” and translated as “German Informatics Society”) [1] , organized by Reinhard Zumkeller from the University of Dortmund. Eight programs played a three rounds swiss system. The award ceremony took place at Dortmunder Actien Brauerei [2] .

Playoff
A tie-break match between Tell and Daja, both with two and a half points, and drawing each other just before in round three, finally decided the tournament in favor to Johann Joss’ program.
